Riot Games quickly responded to the leak, confirming the preparation of changes to League of Legends. Bloomberg reported that the project, codenamed League Next, will be the largest rework of the game in its history and will be released in 2027.
This is not League of Legends 2 — the game will retain its identity but will be completely reworked and prepared for the next decade.
We planned to reveal this information only in early January with the launch of the new season, but the rumors accelerated the decision.
The update will completely rework the graphics: characters, interface, and battle arenas, to make the game more accessible to new players. At the same time, the technical infrastructure is being modernized, which will simplify and speed up the implementation of future updates. Riot confirmed the entire package of changes: a new client integrated with the gameplay, a visual update of the "Summoner's Rift" with changes in the game mechanics, a rework of the rune system and pre-match interactions. The main goal is to improve the experience of newcomers, which remains a long-standing problem for League of Legends.
The developers emphasized that all actions will be part of a long-term strategy focused on the interests of players. Last year became the foundation for the transformation, and the next stage is designed to develop what has been started and lay the foundation for a new era of League of Legends. Riot promises to reveal more detailed information about the release dates and implementation of updates in 2026.
