Valve is in no hurry to release Steam Deck 2, but a more powerful alternative on SteamOS may appear on the market.
According to reports, Lenovo is preparing to release a new version of its Legion Go 2 handheld console, which will run on SteamOS, Valve's proprietary operating system. According to Windows Latest, the announcement should take place at CES 2026 in January.
The company previously introduced the Legion Go S model with SteamOS. It was released a few months after the Windows version and received a warmer reception from players and specialized media, including thanks to the better adaptation of SteamOS to the portable form factor.
Initially, the Legion Go 2 debuted in October 2025 at a price of $1099, making it one of the most expensive alternatives to the Steam Deck. The cost is explained by the specifications: the device is equipped with an AMD Ryzen Z2 or Z2 Extreme processor, up to 2 TB of storage, an 8.8-inch OLED display, up to 32 GB of RAM, and a 74 Wh battery.
However, despite Microsoft's promises to turn Windows 11 into the "perfect platform for gaming," including the introduction of Xbox Full Screen Experience mode, many users still consider SteamOS a more suitable solution for portable systems.
Portable PC enthusiasts have been waiting for a conditional Steam Deck 2 for a long time, but Valve has already made it clear that a new device will not be released in the near future. Therefore, self-installation of SteamOS or waiting for models like Legion Go 2 with SteamOS become the only alternative for many.
There is no official information yet on the release date of Legion Go 2 with SteamOS and its cost.
