Cutscenes in games often annoy players if they can't be skipped, but it's important to maintain attention without coercion. According to Petr Pakar, director of the cinematic part of Warhorse Studios, there are ways to make scenes interesting, even if there is a skip button.
The trick or the point is to make them as engaging as possible. The player really won't want to skip the cutscene. It's a pleasure for them. Our philosophy is to make them beautiful, funny, exciting, and tense.
He noted that scenes can be long if something interesting is always happening in them.
Some of our cutscenes are quite long, but we try not to be boring. The dialogue should be polished, and the events should be dynamic. Long shots and atmospheric scenes can be both long and engaging at the same time.
Pakara believes that the key to engaging cutscenes is not their length, but the quality, dynamics, and emotional involvement of the player.
