Ryukishi07 has not yet been able to understand the mysterious opposite sex.
In Silent Hill f, the developers presented a new vision of the franchise. The action was moved to a new setting, and Ryukishi07, the author of "When the Cicadas Cry" (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni), was responsible for the script.
Recently, the creator spoke with GamesRadar+ and shared his vision of the role of women in Japanese horror - they are scary, and that's good:
[...] In my opinion, the horror audience as a whole leans towards the male side, and in the eyes of men, the opposite sex is capable of evoking a variety of, sometimes contradictory, feelings - from tenderness to horror. I believe that this is why women often become central images or themes of Japanese horror: the emotions that they awaken with their presence become a source of complex and deep drama.
As it turned out, women also scare Ryukishi07 himself:
Personally, for me, the opposite sex (women) are those whom I respect, honor, befriend, and fear. Something that I am fascinated by, that scares me and at the same time fascinates me. I have written many stories that can be classified as "horror", but I would not have been able to complete any of them if women did not exist.
The screenwriter was never able to understand women, and is also sure that in general no one can understand the opposite sex:
None of us will ever truly understand the opposite sex. To assert the opposite is the height of arrogance. We must honor, respect, love, and at the same time understand that we will always misunderstand each other in some way. Working on topics related to women is the greatest act of respect that I can dedicate to them.
