Nintendo assures that memory shortage does not affect Switch and Switch 2 production
Nintendo does not consider fluctuations in the memory market a threat to its consoles.
Amid the ongoing memory shortage, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa stated that the company has secured memory supplies for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 consoles.
Furukawa emphasized that purchases are made "based on medium- and long-term business plans," and current changes in the memory market do not directly affect the company's financial performance.
At the same time, Nintendo's management is "closely monitoring the situation" - this wording was perceived by some of the audience as a possible hint at price increases in the event of a further deterioration in the situation. However, Furukawa declined to comment on such "hypothetical situations."
As Gameranx notes, Nintendo is usually criticized for using outdated components, but in this case, it played into the company's hands. The components used in Switch and Switch 2 are not only cheaper but also significantly more accessible, which allows Nintendo to avoid problems with supply contracts.
