Bloodborne Runs Better on ROG Xbox Ally X Than on PS4 and PS5 - Digital Foundry Testing
Modern technologies allow you to run PlayStation exclusives on other platforms.
Recently, Digital Foundry specialists remembered Bloodborne. They tested the game on the ROG Xbox Ally X portable device.
Officially, it is not available on it — the game is launched using an emulator. However, even in this mode, the device demonstrates high performance.
ROG Xbox Ally X delivers 50-70 FPS, which significantly exceeds the 30 frame limit on PlayStation consoles.
To run Bloodborne on ROG Xbox Ally X, the ShadPS4 «Nightly» emulator build was used. Chromatic aberration was disabled, the TaskSplit patch was installed, and the Model LOD option was set to «-2» to maximize geometry quality. The 30 FPS limit was removed using the Uncap FPS modification.
Digital Foundry noted that «the deciding factor for achieving the highest possible frame rate is setting the resolution to "720p"»:
Thus, we are actually reducing the resolution compared to the original 1080p on PS4, but using the freed up GPU resources to provide a much higher FPS [...] The seven-inch display goes well with the reduced resolution to 720p — the game still looks great. Of course, nothing prevents you from running the game in the original 1080p, where the FPS usually stabilizes in the range of 33–40 frames.
