Bungie fixed a bug that caused Destiny 2 to start downloading on PC without permission after pre-ordering Marathon
Presumably, the cause of the bug was the pre-order bonuses for the extraction shooter.
Bungie encountered an unusual Marathon bug: players began complaining that when purchasing the shooter on Steam, Destiny 2 automatically started installing on their PC.
People online started joking, calling Destiny 2 a virus and recalling the 2014 scandal when a U2 album appeared in iTunes libraries without permission. However, Bungie was quick to assure that this was not an intentional step, but a technical error on the server side.
We have fixed the issue that caused Destiny 2 to start installing after pre-ordering Marathon on Steam. We have also fixed a bug that caused Collector's Edition owners to experience a failure when attempting to activate the game code on Steam.
Presumably, the cause of the bug was the pre-order bonuses for Marathon. Buyers of any version of the game receive a set of cosmetic items for Destiny 2.
Marathon will be released on March 5 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
