The developers have very ambitious plans.

Recently, No Rest for the Wicked received a major update with co-op, and now the head of Moon Studios has revealed the studio's future plans.

Thomas Mahler spoke on social media about a new approach to the class system — the developers are planning to move away from the traditional ARPG class selection and implement an adaptive system:

In the upcoming Jobs System in No Rest for the Wicked, your character's class will dynamically adapt to your playstyle. If you frequently fight with a sword, you will naturally become a more skilled swordsman. If you use staves and wands, you will begin to develop as a mage. Each class has its own weapon types, traits, and runes, and players will need to use and master a class to unlock its full potential. However, once you have mastered a class, you will be able to apply its skills in other classes as well. Your class is not chosen in a menu — it is earned through gameplay.

This system is inspired by Final Fantasy Tactics, and the developers "sincerely believe that it can change the way players — and even other developers — perceive progression in ARPGs:

[...] we believe that the new Jobs System finally overcomes long-standing barriers in ARPG progression. Of course, it is risky to introduce changes like this at a late stage of development, but I am confident that this is a step in the right direction — not only for Wicked, but for the ARPG genre as a whole. I think Yasumi Matsuno found the right solution 30 years ago — most Western developers simply did not give it the attention it deserved.
