Blizzard removed the "2" and added five new heroes at once.
Blizzard Entertainment has officially launched a new chapter in the history of its free-to-play PvP shooter Overwatch, which is now over a decade old. The studio dropped the "2" from the title, simultaneously released five new heroes, and conducted a major relaunch, significantly changing key elements of the game.
The first season, which started on February 10, is called Conquest and launched the Reign of Talon story arc, which will unfold over six seasons. The starting point of the story is Vendetta's victory over Doomfist and the seizure of control over the Talon organization.
One of the main innovations of the season is a kind of "faction war." Players can choose the side of Overwatch or Talon and complete weekly tasks, earning rewards. The faction with the most overall progress will receive a more valuable prize. During the first season, there will be two such "battles," and in the second, players will be able to change sides.
Blizzard also confirmed that five more new heroes will be released later in 2026, one with the launch of each new season. It is not yet known whether this pace will continue in 2027, but plans for the coming year have already been determined.
At the time of publication, the Overwatch relaunch in Steam alone has attracted the attention of nearly 120,000 players.
