The BioShock movie from Netflix is showing signs of life after three years of silence.
Producer Roy Lee has confirmed that the BioShock movie has not been canceled and remains in active development at Netflix. In an interview with Collider, he clarified that filming is planned to begin in 2027, barring any further delays. According to him, the project could have been realized several years ago, but director Francis Lawrence's schedule made its adjustments.
“We would have made it a couple of years ago, but he was busy with other projects — ‘The Long Walk’ and the ‘Hunger Games’ prequel, which is coming out this December. So we’re waiting for him to finish post on that. He’s going to be busy until at least September, and then after that he will turn his attention to [BioShock]. I know that both Netflix and Take-Two want to get it made, because they have a potential tie-in with a version of the game that they’re looking to do.”
Speaking about the timeline, Lee emphasized that plans could change:
“It’s moving forward confidently, but you know how these things are. Too many things can get in the way. But the intention is to make it next year.”
Information about casting is still unavailable. The adaptation is expected to be based on the first game from 2007 and will tell the story of Jack, a survivor of a plane crash who finds himself in the underwater city of Rapture, where the true nature of the utopian project is gradually revealed.
