"A dangerous, player-reactive medieval fantasy world full of freedom, tension, and opportunity."
The open-world role-playing "sandbox" Valorborn will appear in the Steam Early Access program on April 15.
The developers describe the project as "a dangerous, player-reactive medieval fantasy world full of freedom, tension, and opportunity." Unlike the studio's previous game, Land of the Vikings, a 2023 city-building simulator in which players were invited to manage a Viking colony and survive in harsh conditions, Valorborn focuses on the fate of one character, rather than an entire settlement.
The story of Valorborn evolves depending on the player's decisions and routes. At the same time, the universe lives its own life — residents follow a daily routine, factions fight for power, and events continue to occur even in the absence of the player. A seemingly safe territory may change by the time of return, turning into a deadly zone.
One of the central mechanics will be the permanent death of the character. Laps Games calls it a fundamental part of the design, emphasizing the importance of each decision. The player will have to carefully consider their path — whether it's a mercenary with a sword, a thief, a hunter, a lone wanderer, or a member of a squad.
