The story about an attempt to return humanity to the path of progress will be released on Netflix in the summer of 2026.
Kyoto Animation has revealed new details about the anime "The Twentieth Century Electricity Affair." The studio showed a new trailer and key visual, and also confirmed the premiere date — the series will start on July 5, 2026 and will be available exclusively on Netflix.
The events unfold in an alternate version of Kyoto at the beginning of the 20th century. Here, technological progress has taken a different path: humanity has focused on the development of steam engines, and electricity has remained an unrealized dream. The city is shrouded in smoke, and the very idea of the "age of electricity" is perceived as something almost unattainable.
At the center of the story are two teenagers experiencing loss. Sakamoto Kihachi lost his brother, with whom he dreamed of an electric future. Momokawa Inako mourns her deceased mother, but tries to keep her emotions under control. Their meeting becomes the starting point: the heroes unite to find the "Electric Records of the 20th Century" and change the world.
The anime is based on the light novel by Hiro Yuki with illustrations by Kazumi Ikeda. Minoru Ota is the director of the project, and Tatsuhiko Urahata is responsible for the script.
