The developers say that implementing the feature is more complex than it might seem at first glance.
Earlier this year, Bethesda confirmed that it is working on cross-platform play and shared progress in The Elder Scrolls Online, but you shouldn't expect a quick release.
User Experience Team Lead Kira Ross Schlitt noted that the feature will not appear in the game in 2026. According to her, the introduction of crossplay is an extremely difficult task, especially for a project that was not originally designed with this feature in mind.
Schlitt emphasized that crossplay affects almost all aspects of the game, so it is important for developers to make sure that its launch is comfortable for all players. The team strives to avoid negative experiences and carefully works out the details: from balance to the feeling of progress for users on different platforms.
It won't happen this year, but it will definitely-definitely happen.
Despite the lack of deadlines, the developers assured that the function is being actively created and will definitely appear in the future.
Similar difficulties are experienced by another Bethesda online project — Fallout 76, where work is also underway on this feature years after release.
