"Bombora" Prepares New Book on Deus Ex: Freedom in a World of Total Control

In the future, thanks to a new book from Bombora publishing house, readers will be able to learn how Deus Ex creates a sense of freedom through mechanics, level design, and role-playing, as well as get acquainted with the history of the series' creation and its sources of inspiration.

Back in 2000, Deus Ex was released – a stealth-action game with shooter and RPG elements from Ion Storm. At that time, the gaming industry was not yet ready for how free a gamer could feel within a seemingly rigidly written plot.

The project about cyberpunk, conspiracies, and augmentations became a manifesto of free will in a world where everything is built on control. Today, Bombora publishing house announced that in the future it will release a new book dedicated to this franchise.

Ivan Afanasyev, a film critic and game journalist who collaborated with Igromania, IPQuorum, and other publications, is preparing a deep study of this phenomenon.

Thanks to the book, people will be able to understand how Deus Ex creates a sense of freedom through mechanics, level design, and role-playing, why a story about total control gives a rare sense of independence, and how philosophy, politics, and transhumanism become part of the gameplay itself.

In addition, readers will learn the history of the series' creation, its sources of inspiration, and its influence on modern games.
