The independent horror film "Iron Lung" has been released digitally. The film can be purchased or rented exclusively on YouTube.
The film is based on David Szymanski's video game of the same name and is set in a post-apocalyptic universe where survivors send prisoners to explore an ocean of blood on a distant moon in search of resources. The main action focuses on a solo expedition into the depths in a sealed submarine capsule.
"Iron Lung" was released in theaters on January 30, 2026, without the support of major Hollywood studios. Despite its independent release status, the film became one of the year's biggest box office phenomena: with a modest budget of $3 million, global box office receipts exceeded $51 million. The project showed strong resilience in cinemas and successfully competed with Sam Raimi's horror film "Help!", which was released at the same time.
The director, screenwriter, and lead actor was popular blogger Mark Fischbach, better known as Markiplier. In addition to him, the cast included Troy Baker, Caroline Rose Kaplan, Elsie Lovelock, and Alana Pearce. The music for the film was composed by Andrew Hulshult, known to gamers for his soundtracks to DUSK, Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods, and Amid Evil.
