Dutch Gamers Sue Valve Over High Game Prices - Company Accused of Overpricing
Valve continues to face various class-action lawsuits.
It recently became known about another lawsuit against Valve. This time, it's a class-action lawsuit being prepared by Consumer Competition Claims. This foundation represents the interests of all Dutch PC gamers who have purchased games through Steam or other PC distribution platforms since 2013.
According to the foundation, Valve currently holds a dominant position in the market, and the existing conditions do not allow developers to sell games cheaper on competing platforms, such as the Epic Games Store, than in the Steam store. In addition, Valve charges a 30 percent commission on sales, which, the foundation believes, artificially inflates prices for consumers.
Consumer Competition Claims estimated the "consequences of overpaying" for games and DLC for gamers. According to their data, the damages could amount to approximately 220 million euros.
The chairman of Consumer Competition Claims emphasizes that the foundation primarily wants to enter into a dialogue with Valve. Media outlets quote Bert Heikens:
The foundation will, of course, try to reach a solution through negotiations with Valve. If this fails, a lawsuit will be filed on behalf of all Dutch PC gamers who have purchased games or in-game content through Steam or other PC gaming channels.
