Sharma's Reforms: Head of Xbox Game Studios Leaves Company
Craig Duncan wrote a farewell letter to employees.
Personnel changes continue in the Xbox division, initiated by the company's new leadership. It is reported that two key employees are leaving Xbox Game Studios – Craig Duncan, head of the studio division, and Louise O'Connor, chief of staff.
Both top managers previously worked at Rare studio for a long time. Duncan headed Rare from February 2011 to November 2024, after which he replaced Alan Hartman as head of Xbox Game Studios. O'Connor was part of Rare for over 26 years – from May 1999 to August 2025. After the cancellation of Everwild's development, she took on the role of chief of staff at Xbox Game Studios.
The Game Business published Duncan's farewell letter to employees. In it, he noted that during his leadership of Xbox Game Studios, the team focused on supporting internal studios, strengthening corporate culture, and releasing quality games.
When I stepped into the role of XGS head 20 months ago, my goal was to serve our studios, teams, and the people who make games. Together, we aimed to deliver high-quality projects, strengthen the cultural foundation of our studios, and help shape the future of the business. I am proud that we have been able to deliver many flawless launches that have contributed to the company's success.
The official reasons for the departure of both executives are not disclosed. However, the changes are taking place against the backdrop of a large-scale restructuring of Microsoft's gaming business. Earlier reports indicated possible layoffs within Xbox, as well as the company considering various options for the division's further development, including the potential spin-off of the business into a separate entity for sale or the creation of a joint venture.
