Asha will bring order: in the next 100 days Xbox will become significantly smaller, says analyst
Asha Sharma came precisely to shrink the overgrown and out-of-control gaming division.
After the reduction in Game Pass subscription costs, a new focus on console hardware, and a return to exclusive games, many fans saw Asha Sharma as a leader capable of changing the brand's direction. However, amidst reports of several studio closures and impending mass layoffs, attitudes towards the new leadership rapidly shifted.
According to gaming industry veteran and analyst Joost van Dreunen, what is happening today is not a deviation from the course, but precisely the task for which Sharma was appointed to lead Xbox.
In his new SuperJoost Playlist newsletter titled "Sharma's Next 100 Days," the analyst stated that the Xbox division has grown too large and now requires a massive restructuring.
Now, after her first 100 days as the new head, Sharma is preparing for the job she was actually hired to do: bring Xbox into order.
He also believes that the gaming industry is not experiencing a "content cycle," where success is determined by blockbuster hits, but a "transformation cycle." In such conditions, companies that can reduce production costs, optimize processes, and make their products more accessible win. This is why staff reductions and business restructuring are becoming part of the new reality for major publishers.
