Stores started to refuse "physical" editions of GTA VI
Not only ordinary players are dissatisfied with the absence of a disc in the box.
Recently, Rockstar Games finally revealed details of Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders, and a detail emerged that caused outrage among some members of the gaming community. It turned out that "physical editions" will only contain a download code for the game.
Market representatives also began to react to this news. For example, players' attention was drawn to the statement by VGP (Video Games Plus) — a North American retailer that decided to abandon "physical" versions of GTA VI:
As gamers and retailers, we understand that Grand Theft Auto VI is poised to be one of the biggest releases in entertainment industry history. The hype surrounding this game is unprecedented, and we understand why so many customers are eagerly awaiting its release. For nearly 40 years, VGP has supported physical media and championed the value of owning games in physical format. As part of this position, our policy is that we do not sell physical console products if they contain only a digital download code. According to currently available information, the physical edition of Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X is expected to include packaging with a code (no disc). Therefore, VGP will not sell it.
Video Games Plus noted that if Rockstar releases a physical edition with a disc in the box in the future, they will gladly sell it.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026 — only on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles, with pre-loading expected to start on November 12. The developers have not yet announced the release date for the PC version of the game.
