Authors of the horror game ILL explained why they chose a post-Soviet 1970s setting
Developers from Team Clout shared new details about the horror game ILL, which has already attracted the attention of genre fans with its dark atmosphere, realistic brutality, and unusual setting. The game takes place in an isolated Soviet-era research complex, where the player must confront eerie anomalies and uncover the secrets of a mysterious object.
According to the plot, the main character wakes up after a prolonged coma and discovers that a huge research fortress has turned into a real nightmare. The complex is filled with aggressive monsters, and the events unfolding around gradually reveal the history of the catastrophe.
The creators explained that they initially wanted to focus on one large and meticulously designed location. According to them, they always liked enclosed locations that feel like a character in their own right. Instead of traveling to different countries, players will be offered to explore a huge research fort with many unique zones.
The developers emphasized that the object will be significantly larger than it might seem at first glance. Inside the complex are hospitals, laboratories, and other areas that are currently kept secret. Players will have to move between cramped corridors and spacious open areas covered with snow, which will provide significant environmental diversity.
Separately, the team spoke about choosing the aesthetic of the 1970s Eastern Bloc. According to the authors, the decision was related to their personal experience: many studio employees grew up in former socialist countries and are well acquainted with this culture and architecture. Thanks to this, the developers strive to reproduce the familiar details as accurately as possible, preserving the authenticity and special atmosphere of the era.
Team Clout is confident that this approach will allow them to create a convincing and grounded world that players can believe in.
