"Sons of Anarchy" to Reunite After 12 Years - Charlie Hunnam Gathers Cast for Meta-Series "Legends"
Charlie Hunnam has been developing an unusual reunion of "Sons of Anarchy" stars for several years.
FX has greenlit the mini-series "Legends," which will bring together key actors from "Sons of Anarchy" after 12 years. The project was conceived by Charlie Hunnam, who will also serve as executive producer and play one of the main roles.
Hunnam will be joined by Ron Perlman, Katey Sagal, Maggie Siff, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan, Kim Coates, and Theo Rossi – all playing fictionalized versions of themselves.
The story follows the stars of "Sons of Anarchy" as they reunite at a fan festival more than a decade later. At some point, everything spirals out of control, the line between the show and reality begins to blur, and the former colleagues face a real threat.
FX describes the project as both a love letter to "Sons of Anarchy" and a meta-game with fan expectations:
"Charlie brought us this idea, and we were immediately drawn to his bold and entertaining vision. [...] It's both a love letter to the show and a fun meta-game with fan perceptions."
Jonathan Groff, who worked on "Black-ish" and "Happy Endings," will be the showrunner for "Legends." "Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter is not involved in the production but has given Hunnam his blessing to use the show's legacy.
The original "Sons of Anarchy" aired on FX from 2008 to 2014 and concluded after seven seasons. The franchise later spawned the spin-off "Mayans M.C.," and Sutter had planned other offshoots, including the prequel "The First 9" and a story about Jax Teller's sons.
The start date for filming and the premiere of "Legends" have not yet been announced.
