DLSS 5 launched on RTX 30, but the joy was short-lived - performance drops to 1 frame per second
For some players, the tests worked as a decent advertisement for modern graphics cards.
This year, the latest installment of the basketball simulator NBA 2K27 attracted special attention from PC gamers. The reason was not the gameplay, but the technologies used in the game. The NVIDIA DLSS 5 library was extracted from the files, and now attempts are being made to run it in various games.
Formally, DLSS 5 is supported on GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards, but this limitation did not stop tech enthusiasts. Initially, tests were conducted on GeForce RTX 40 level graphics cards, and now they have gone even further — tests on PCs with GeForce RTX 30 (Ampere) have started appearing online.
However, the performance leaves much to be desired. For example, a gameplay example published by user flovreq went viral in the community. On his GeForce RTX 3080, the frame rate instantly dropped from 138 FPS to 3-5 frames per second after enabling NVIDIA DLSS 5 technology.
A drop is also observed in Deep Rock Galactic: in the cooperative shooter, the FPS drops from 130 to 4 FPS. In the case of graphics cards like RTX 3050 and RTX 3060 Ti, in some games, such as Control or Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, a frequency of 1 FPS can be observed.
The capabilities of NVIDIA DLSS 5 impressed some people so much that they considered purchasing more modern RTX 50 series graphics cards.
