Battlefield Studios aims to maintain smooth movement so that the game does not feel slow, but finds a balance between the arcade style of Call of Duty and realistic military simulators like Arma.
During the Battlefield 6 beta test, many players, especially fans of the classic Battlefield series, expressed dissatisfaction with the overly fast and arcade-like movement mechanics, reminiscent of the Call of Duty style. In particular, the excessive use of "bunny hopping" (jumping) and sliding allowed some players to almost fly over the map.
In response to criticism, the developers decided to significantly weaken movement exploits. According to the official blog, the changes include:
- Increased penalty for jump spamming: jump height will now decrease with multiple consecutive jumps
- Increased inaccuracy when shooting while moving: shooting while jumping or sliding will become less accurate to make these actions more situational rather than the primary way to fight
- Reduced sliding momentum: the transition from sliding to jumping will be less dynamic, which will slow down the overall pace of movement
