"Computer Graphics Are for Losers": Christoph Waltz Supports the Use of Practical Effects in Guillermo del Toro's \"Frankenstein\"

Guillermo del Toro remains true to his principles - in the new adaptation of Mary Shelley's novel, he once again turns to practical effects and naturalistic sets.

The Venice Film Festival hosted a press conference for \"Frankenstein\", a new version of Mary Shelley's classic novel by Guillermo del Toro. Christoph Waltz, known for his roles in Quentin Tarantino's films, unexpectedly became the center of attention. In the film, he plays Heinrich Harlander, an arms dealer involved in Victor Frankenstein's experiments.

Answering a question about the director's visual approach, Waltz uttered only one short line: "CGI is for losers." This phrase was enough to become the main headline of the meeting.

Del Toro emphasized that he deliberately relies on practical effects and "old-fashioned craftsmanship" — real sets, lighting, and objects that the actors interact with on set. According to him, this creates a more authentic atmosphere and directly affects the performance of the actors. He also noted that he is not afraid of artificial intelligence, but fears "natural stupidity," which, according to him, is becoming much more prevalent in the world.

The main roles in the film are played by Oscar Isaac (Victor Frankenstein) and Jacob Elordi (the Monster). The cast also includes Mia Goth, Lars Mikkelsen, Charles Dance, and Ralph Ineson.

\"Frankenstein\" will be released in theaters on October 17, with a digital release on Netflix scheduled for November 7.
