Milioti's victory was the only one for "The Penguin" at the main ceremony, but in total, the show took home nine awards.
Cristin Milioti received her first career Emmy Award — the actress won in the category of "Best Actress in a Mini-Series" for her role as Sofia Falcone in the crime drama "The Penguin" from HBO and DC Studios.
On stage, Milioti gave an emotional speech, thanking showrunner Lauren LeFranc, the film crew, friends, and family — "who showed me movies as a child that were completely inappropriate for my age." At the same time, the actress joked that she wrote the speech "on the back of notes from therapy, so please don't look at the back."
"I feel incredibly lucky to have played this woman. It was one of the highlights of my life. Despite the creepy nature of the show, the role felt like flying," Milioti said.
Milioti's victory was the only award for "The Penguin" at the main ceremony. Nevertheless, at the preliminary Creative Arts Emmy stage, the project received eight technical awards, including categories for makeup, costumes, sound, and visual effects. Thus, out of 24 nominations, the show won in nine.
Meanwhile, the second season of "The Last of Us" was left without a victory in the main nominations, receiving only one statuette — for best sound editing in the second episode, despite 16 nominations. Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal left the ceremony empty-handed.
