Technology evolves, and Steam creators are gradually phasing out support for older client versions.
Valve has warned Steam users that the service will soon cease to be supported on some versions of the Windows operating system.
Starting January 1, 2026, Steam will no longer support 32-bit Windows.
The developers noted that the only 32-bit OS currently is Windows 10; according to a Valve survey, it is used on only 0.01% of systems:
«This change is necessary because core Steam features rely on system drivers and other libraries that are not supported in 32-bit versions of Windows. Future versions of Steam will only work on 64-bit versions of Windows. We strongly recommend that all users of 32-bit Windows upgrade as soon as possible.»
64-bit Windows 10 will continue to be supported by Steam.
