Former Blizzard President Mike Ybarra believes that the console market is still capable of bringing success if approached correctly.
He also stated that Microsoft has problems understanding the identity of the Xbox brand. These words were spoken against the backdrop of Sony confirming that the PS5 generation has become the most profitable in the company's history.
The console industry has been stagnant in recent years. Rising prices and interest in PC gaming have reduced their influence. At the same time, Xbox has effectively abandoned its traditional strategy and switched to a wider audience. Against this background, Ybarra rejected the notion that consoles are losing relevance.
In response to a tweet about Sony's sales reaching $136 billion during the PS5's lifetime, he emphasized that the console business remains viable with proper management. In another comment, Ybarra commented on Microsoft's thesis "Everything Is An Xbox," calling the brand confused.
This is not the first time the former head of Blizzard has compared PlayStation and Xbox. He regularly shares his opinion on the console industry and continues to insist that the segment still has a future, despite the growing difficulties for large companies.
