In Requiem, Capcom abandoned the return of the muscular Leon Kennedy in favor of newcomer Grace Ashcroft, focusing on "survival" more than ever. At the same time, the game will retain its signature boss fights and variety of weapons.
In an interview, game director Koshi Nakanishi explained that boss fights will return, but the main emphasis is on exploration and ingenuity. Players will expand the exploration area in a confined space and overcome obstacles, rather than just effectively shooting enemies, as in shooters.
This approach reflects the development of Grace Ashcroft in the game. The developers want newcomers and players who are afraid of scary content to empathize as she faces horrors. In Resident Evil, frightened characters gradually become stronger. Grace is initially afraid, but the situation forces her to mobilize and fight enemies, and the opportunity to go through this path together with the heroine is one of the key features of the game.
Combat plays a big role in Grace's development. In promotional materials and trailers, she uses pistols and revolvers, which shows her willingness to fight and emphasizes the "romance of a fragile girl with a strong revolver." In addition to firearms, there are knives and other melee weapons.
Resident Evil Requiem will be released on February 27, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
