Nintendo Japan has shared official information about the futuristic Vi-O-La motorcycle, shown at the latest Nintendo Direct presentation for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
Vi-O-La will be Samus Aran's primary mode of transportation on an unknown planet, but it's not just transport. The motorcycle is equipped with built-in combat and tactical systems:
- Boost — temporarily increases speed, knocking down enemies and destroying ore deposits.
- Power Slide — a sideways drift during Boost, allowing you to throw enemies and obstacles around.
- Projectile — Samus launches homing projectiles capable of hitting up to five targets simultaneously; after the attack, they return like a boomerang.
Vi-O-La can only be summoned in certain areas. After dismounting the motorcycle, the game returns to the usual first-person view. The decision should reassure players who were worried that the transport would simplify world exploration.
The Switch 2 version will offer improved graphics and a choice between modes: 4K/60 fps or 1080p/120 fps. There will also be mouse-style control support via Joy-Con 2.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be released on December 4, 2025 on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.
