When The Outer Worlds was released in 2019, many Fallout and The Elder Scrolls fans were disappointed by the lack of a third-person view. This is a traditional option for games of this type, especially considering that Obsidian Entertainment previously created Fallout: New Vegas, where it was present.

But now the situation has changed. The Outer Worlds 2, which will be released at the end of the month, will feature two third-person view options, although this was not originally planned.

Game director Brandon Adler said that the team did not plan this at the beginning of development. According to him, the idea came about only two years ago, when the developers were discussing a list of features that they could add.

"We understood that some things were too expensive and left them for later. But somewhere in the middle of the journey, we decided: players want this. Then we assessed how difficult it would be to implement."

As a result, Obsidian teamed up with the Disruptive team to integrate a third-person camera into the game's mechanics and animations. The system is adapted to interact with the environment, field of view, and character physics.
