The creators of the Burnout series tried to bring back the spirit of crazy crashes in the new game Wreckreation, but the launch turned into a failure. The project from Three Fields Entertainment, conceived as a spiritual successor to Burnout and a mix with Trackmania, was met with a lukewarm reception.
The game, which focused on complete freedom and the ability to create tracks in LiveMix mode, received an average score of about 70% from the press — not bad, but far from a hit. Critics praised the idea and atmosphere of arcade racing, but noted a lot of technical problems and shortcomings, due to which the project's potential quickly disappears.
Journalists highlighted the spectacular collisions and creativity in creating tracks, but complain about poor optimization, an empty open world, strange car physics, and a boring campaign.
Players turned out to be even harsher. On Steam, the game received the status of "mixed reviews", and only 47% of reviews were positive after 100+ opinions. Burnout fans call Wreckreation an unfinished test version: frequent fps drops, freezes, control errors, and illogical time limits make the process unbearable.
The main complaint is terrible optimization. Cars behave unpredictably, drifting works poorly, and you can't return to the previous checkpoint. Many believe that the game has potential, but without serious updates, it will remain an empty echo of Burnout.
