Not all players were able to appreciate the new vision back then.

In 2025, Fallout 4 will celebrate its first jubilee. Recently, Bethesda Game Studios boss Todd Howard gave an interview to GQ, during which he shared his thoughts on the game's dialogue system.

When working on Fallout 4, the developers wanted to offer players interesting and lively dialogues, but the final experiment turned out to be unsuccessful:

....we spent forever on the dialogue system in Fallout 4. How do you make interactive dialogue interesting? How do you make it playable? But it didn't resonate. Also, it was difficult for our designers to write in that vein.

Todd Howard explained that players are more interested in role-playing, and voicing the hero was not the best idea:

Players want to role-play more, and we had a voiced protagonist. The actors were phenomenal, but many players said, "That's not the voice I hear in my head"
