Many industry representatives will feel the impact of the major launch of Grand Theft Auto 6, but niche developers should not have any particular problems.
Arrowhead Game Studios boss Shams Jorjani participated in the podcast The Game Business and discussed an important event for the industry — the postponement of Grand Theft Auto 6. The creator believes that only small and niche studios will not feel the negative effect of the launch of the new Rockstar Games project.
According to the Helldivers 2 developer, the release of GTA 6 will "overshadow the sun" for a while and will be a horror for industry representatives.
Previously, Jorjani worked at Paradox Interactive, which is known for its global strategies. He said that the publisher tried to release games in the fourth quarter (at the end of the year) — at this time no one usually released such projects:
Everyone else was very crowded [in the release calendar], but who else releases global strategies? Releasing in December was a great decision for Paradox, and I think it still is
The developer thinks that Paradox may not worry about the release of GTA 6, but this cannot be said about all market participants — "everyone else will have a terrible time" competing.
Currently, the Helldivers 2 team is not adjusting its work schedule to the Rockstar game, but this may change as the release approaches:
If the release is half a year later, it means that we have another half a year of continuous work ahead of us, and GTA will not interfere with us. We try to plan our work without paying too much attention to what is happening during the release of our games, but GTA would obviously be very difficult to avoid
