A mid-sized Japanese game company has started asking candidates to draw directly during interviews to prevent cases of "AI fraud."
The decision was made after a series of incidents where applicants passed off AI-generated images as their own.
An anonymous chief designer under the pseudonym "B" revealed in an interview that some candidates were hired, but later it turned out that they could not make a significant contribution. Now the studio asks applicants to draw directly at the interview to confirm their skills. According to "B", this is "a huge hassle for recruiters", but similar practices are already being introduced by other companies.
At the same time, management is discussing the possibility of hiring generative AI specialists or using such tools within the studio. "B" notes that although he himself uses AI as an additional tool, he is convinced that "only people are capable of creating expressive characters and graphics from scratch." He admits that his position in the company is gradually weakening and worries about how much the company understands his position.
