The PSSR2 graphics upscaling technology is rumored to arrive in 2026 for the PS5 Pro and will be a major update with image quality comparable to AMD's transition from FSR 3 to FSR 4.
Blogger Moore’s Law is Dead reported that the source — one of the game developers, who noted: Sony is aware of the visual artifacts when using PSSR on PS5 Pro and provided studios with a tool to fix errors.
Sony's developer documents mention Multi-Frame Super Resolution 2 (MFSR2) — the internal code name for PSSR2. According to the leak, the algorithm requires less source data, uses less memory, and reduces the load on the GPU, providing better image quality. Sony claims that the graphics leap will be similar to the transition from FSR 3 to FSR 4.
PSSR2 is built on a new API, promises higher performance and improved image quality, and new debugging will reduce the number of visual errors. FSR 4 support is also expected, which will work on PS5 Pro along with PSSR2.
