Lawyers have questions for another mod.
Recently, a well-known fan project closely related to the Grand Theft Auto franchise came under attack.
The repository of the unofficial multiplayer Multi Theft Auto (MTA) received a DMCA strike (copyright infringement) and was blocked; a notification appeared on the page:
This repository has been disabled due to a DMCA takedown notice.
In the statement, Take-Two cited the distribution of a "source code leak" of GTA: San Andreas as the reason for the block.
Fans suggest that this may be due to the use of source code:
By the way. There was a story that at the beginning of the development of the multiplayer, Rockstar themselves gave the MTA authors part of the game's source code to speed up development, because they supported the creation of such a project [...]
This is not the first time that Take-Two / Rockstar Games lawyers have sent DMCA notices to fan projects. It is not yet clear why the notification was sent only now — MTA has been around for over 20 years.
