Two months after the release of The Outer Worlds 2, community discussion has focused on what works well in the game and one element that clearly needs improvement.
Obsidian's project was warmly received as a solid old-school first-person RPG, but players essentially have one clear complaint: the maximum character level is too low.
A Reddit thread appeared with impressions after dozens of hours spent even after completing the campaign. Almost all complaints relate to one problem: the level cap, set at level 30, does not allow you to unlock a significant part of the branched skill tree, which reduces the motivation to further explore the world.
One of the users described the situation as follows:
I lost most of my motivation to do side quests when I reached level 30. It's poorly implemented.
Obsidian bet on CRPG roots — leveling, difficult decisions, and the inability to create a universal character. But some of the audience expected a system closer to hybrids like Borderlands, where development lasts longer and progress feels brighter.
Otherwise, the complaints are cosmetic. Some players note that in later acts, exploration loses its pace, and the world no longer actively encourages exploration as it did in the beginning.
