Some see a threat in hyper-realistic games.
Grand Theft Auto VI is attracting attention not only from gamers. Recently, the Rockstar Games project has also caught the attention of some scientists.
The quality of graphics is gradually improving, and there are experts who see this as a danger to mental health - the line between violence in the virtual world and reality may be blurred.
However, not everyone sees a threat in "hyper-realistic games." For example, Professor of Game Studies at Brunel University, Tanya Krzywinska, shared her vision.
She believes that players are still able to distinguish a video game from reality, even if the graphics are very realistic:
Although games can create a visual illusion of reality, there are still many signals that help to understand that these are just games. The fact that a game looks "realistic" does not mean that it is perceived by the player as reality. Gameplay is a holistic experience that includes graphics, player freedom, animation, sound, game and spatial design - it is their successful combination in an engaging and well-developed form, in my opinion, that arouses the player's interest. And not just the graphics themselves.
Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to be released in November 2026.
