Arc Raiders Lead Designer Acknowledges Major Gear Issue - Developers Themselves Suffer From It, But There Is No Solution Yet
Not everyone likes spending a long time in the menu each time to assemble the necessary gear for a raid. Players would like to speed up the preparatory stage.
In an interview with GamesRadar+, lead designer Virgil Watkins spoke about some of the problematic aspects of Arc Raiders.
The developers hear the community's request to add the ability to save custom gear sets that could be equipped with one click — Embark Studios has "discussed this."
He explained that some ideas did not make it into the release version of the game due to limited resources. Now the studio needs to prioritize between implementing planned improvements and new player requests.
The developers themselves also face this problem with gear collection in Arc Raiders when they play.
Watkins admitted that he sometimes just switches to random free gear to avoid spending time on assembly:
Like I'm telling the team, 'Okay, guys, this time I'm going with free gear, let's just get in and get it done.' I can understand that.
Watkins likes the idea of gear sets and acknowledges its advantages. However, he is not speaking on behalf of the UI/UX team, only sharing his thoughts:
I think it's an extremely useful thing — when the system just tries to fulfill your gear request as correctly as possible, taking into account the selected gear. We've already done everything we can to make matchmaking and other processes as fast as possible. So, if we can — not to keep players away from the main menu, but to get them through it faster — I think that's a great goal too. Because players want to get back into the game as soon as possible. Of course, there are times when small delays are beneficial: when it's helpful to spend time or focus attention. However, digging through a bunch of menus is not one of those cases.
