The studio decided to release the film closer to Halloween to emphasize its theme.
Warner Bros. has made changes to the DCU release schedule and moved the premiere of the horror film "Clayface." The film will be released on October 23, 2026, almost a month and a half later than the previous date of September 11. It is noteworthy that just three weeks ago, James Gunn claimed that the September 11 date was "absolute" and not subject to revision. It is assumed that the studio decided to shift the release closer to Halloween to enhance the genre effect and attract a wider audience.
"Clayface" is described as a dark body horror about an actor who injects himself with an experimental drug in an attempt to restore his face after an injury. As a result, the character gains the ability to change his body as if it were pliable clay, but gradually loses his humanity. Previously, actor Max Minghella, who plays one of the key roles, noted that the film will not be restrained in its depiction of body horror and will be one of the darkest DC projects with an R rating.
The script was written by Mike Flanagan ("Doctor Sleep", "The Haunting of Hill House") and Hossein Amini ("Drive"), and the film is directed by James Watkins, director of "The Woman in Black". The main role is played by Tom Rhys Harries ("The Gentlemen").
