The developer is not very happy with the practices of his industry colleagues.

Recently, the game director of No Rest for the Wicked spoke out again on social media. This time, he decided to talk about microtransactions.

Thomas Mahler urged players to «feel free» and kick him in the groin if No Rest for the Wicked features in-app purchases and a battle pass.

He believes that:

The relationship between developers and players should always be fair — with the advantage on the side of the players, because they are the ones who ultimately decide whether we can continue or not. A developer is a servant who, of course, has the last word, but he must remember: he serves people, not himself. We will always try to provide insane value at a reasonable price, and in return, you get a product of the highest quality and maintain interest in what we do next. And that's how it should be.

The creator of No Rest for the Wicked criticized his industry colleagues:

Any developer who still sells «horse armor» or disfigures the design of their game in order to squeeze every penny out of people with additional payments has simply not grasped the essence of what is happening. Times have changed: greed is bad.

Thomas Mahler believes that microtransactions ruin the creative vision. There is a restructuring of the business model and in-app purchases become the «main pillar of income». As a result, developers begin to «letterally worsen their game» in order to sell something, since «items that a player can find in the game itself should be less valuable»:

And even worse, you teach people that they should play less and pay more, which ultimately leads to them stopping playing altogether.
