Former SEGA, Xbox, and Electronic Arts executive Peter Moore commented on the appointment of Ashim Sharma as the head of Microsoft Gaming.
In a new interview, former SEGA, Xbox, and Electronic Arts executive Peter Moore acknowledged that today, a skeptical and even hostile attitude towards AI prevails among the hardcore audience. Many players perceive it as a "fake" and "lazy" way to create games—a conveyor-belt approach instead of manual creative work. According to him, the new head of Microsoft Gaming, Ashim Sharma, should be prepared for such a reaction.
At the same time, Moore emphasized that the gaming industry has been using various forms of artificial intelligence for decades. The question, in his opinion, is not in the AI itself, but in how and for what purpose it is used. He expressed hope that Sharma received the position not only because of his experience in the field of AI, but thanks to proven managerial qualities within Microsoft.
It will be good for games if AI serves the player, not the Excel spreadsheet.
In his opinion, Sharma needs to convey to the audience that technology can contribute to deeper immersion, accelerate development, and reduce production costs. In conditions where the budgets of AAA projects have grown to colossal proportions and hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of specialists are working on one game, AI can become a tool for optimizing processes.
