Activision doesn't need to worry about Call of Duty with competition like this.
A new scandal has erupted around Battlefield 6, related to cosmetic items. After a difficult start, accompanied by the unsuccessful launch of the REDSEC mode and a decrease in the number of players, the game continues to retain its audience through new content and microtransactions. However, a recent promotion with skins has caused a wave of discontent.
This concerns a collaboration with the clothing brand 5.11 Tactical. As part of the collaboration, four unique skins were created for Battlefield 6. Initially, they could only be obtained in a special way: by placing an order in the 5.11 online store.
Buyers who spent at least 50 dollars received a special ticket to unlock one skin — only one cosmetic item. The remaining three skins were sold separately in a set for 16 dollars. This decision caused a sharp reaction among fans, although some players still paid for the exclusive content.
The situation took an unexpected turn just a week later. All four skins became available for free directly in the game — to get them, it is enough to complete simple in-game tasks. At the same time, the set of three skins is still on sale, although it now has a discount for those who have already unlocked one of the skins.
Electronic Arts has not yet explained why the paid cosmetic items became free just a week after the launch of the promotion.
