Take-Two Interactive has released Borderlands Mobile on iOS without prior announcements, advertising campaigns, or trailers. This is not a port of existing installments, but a separate game originally developed for smartphones by Zynga.

This aligns with previous statements by Strauss Zelnick, who spoke about transferring key Take-Two franchises to mobile platforms and emphasized that such projects should be created from scratch, taking into account the specifics of the devices.

Borderlands Mobile retains the visual style and basic gameplay formula of the series. Players are offered a story campaign with main and side missions, loot collection, character progression, and boss battles. All of this is adapted for short sessions and the mobile format. The meta-progression involves developing a hub ship, which unlocks new opportunities and rewards.

According to information from Zynga's support pages, only one class is available at the start—the Summoner—while the remaining classes and customization elements are promised to be added later.

Also, the game is currently completely free, as there is no monetization in the current version. There is formally a battle pass, but only its free version is available. The premium version, according to Zynga, will appear in future updates.

There are already sections dedicated to the Android version on the support pages, although the game itself is currently only available on iOS. This may hint at plans to expand the release, but the publisher has not disclosed the timing of a full and global launch.
