Serenity Forge and Dan Salvato are already looking for a way out of the situation.
Google removed the visual novel Doki Doki Literature Club from the Play Store on April 9, citing a violation of rules related to "sensitive content".
Publisher Serenity Forge and project author Dan Salvato released an appeal in which they expressed disagreement with the platform's decision. According to them, the game has gained recognition for its careful work with mental health topics and has helped many players feel "heard and understood." The team is now trying to return the project to the store and is simultaneously considering alternative distribution methods on Android.
Doki Doki Literature Club was released on PC in 2017 and quickly gained cult status. The game begins as a light romantic simulator, but gradually turns into a psychological horror with dark themes and sharp plot twists.
The mobile version appeared at the end of 2025 and became a way to expand the project's audience. Despite its removal from Google Play, the game remains available on other platforms, including iOS, PC, and consoles.
