Microsoft changes its mind about launching Copilot on Xbox consoles and scales back assistant development on mobile devices
Details about the future of Copilot in the Microsoft ecosystem are not disclosed.
Microsoft is rethinking its strategy for developing its AI assistant, Copilot. Although plans to integrate the feature into Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles later in 2026 were announced in March, these plans have now been officially canceled.
The decision was announced by Xbox head Asha Sharma. According to her, Copilot development for consoles will be completely halted, and the mobile version of the assistant will gradually be phased out.
In her address, Sharma emphasized that Xbox needs to accelerate development, strengthen ties with the community, and remove barriers for both players and developers. These changes are part of a broader restructuring of the division's leadership.
As part of this course, we will begin to phase out features that do not align with our future direction. We are phasing out Copilot on mobile devices and discontinuing development for consoles.
