Windrose turned out to be dangerous for SSDs - the issue has been fixed
The creators of the pirated game Windrose had to urgently address a serious technical problem. Players noticed that the project performed an abnormally large number of write operations to SSDs.
Some users reported that in just a few hours of gameplay, Windrose wrote several terabytes of data to the drive. This raised concerns about possible premature SSD wear.
The problem was particularly serious due to the TBW limit, a parameter that determines the total amount of data an SSD can withstand during its lifespan. Constant unnecessary write operations accelerate the wear of the drive and its components.
The developers quickly released an update that fixed the problem. After analysis, it was found that the cause was a faulty error logging mechanism and an overly aggressive autosave system. Because of this, the game literally "bombarded" the disk with continuous write operations.
The authors of Windrose apologized to players and stated that after installing the latest patch, the load on the SSD returned to normal levels. Users were advised to definitely update the game before launching.
