Modders will be pleased: Valve released several CAD files for its Steam controller

Valve has taken an important step towards the modding community. In an official message to the Steam Community, the company published several 3D CAD files for the new controller and the Puck accessory, providing them under a Creative Commons license.

The set includes STP and STL models of the device cases, as well as engineering drawings with key parameters and design constraints. Thanks to this, enthusiasts will be able to create custom modifications without having to disassemble and measure the device themselves.

The publication of the files opens up wide opportunities for the community: from the production of interchangeable cases and decorative elements to printing new buttons and custom accessories on a 3D printer. This is especially relevant given that the Steam Controller is currently only available in black – modders and third-party manufacturers will be able to quickly offer customization options for those who want to make their gamepad stand out.
