Against the $55 Billion Deal: Gamers Gather to Storm Electronic Arts Office

The $55 billion deal to acquire Electronic Arts has caused such a strong reaction among gamers that protests are extending beyond social media.

According to Players Alliance HQ, on May 11, a protest will be held at the company's main office in Redwood City against the acquisition of EA by a consortium involving the Saudi Public Investment Fund. Participants believe that the deal reflects not only a controversial change of ownership but also accumulated grievances against the company's policies regarding players and employees.

The acquisition of EA became known in September 2025. At that time, the company agreed to a deal with a consortium of the Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners. After the completion of the procedure, the publisher is expected to be delisted from the stock exchange.

The organizers call the upcoming event a "raid," but in fact, it is a large-scale demonstration. Protesters plan to unfurl a scroll approximately 15 meters long with over 70,000 signatures against the deal. Some participants intend to come in cosplay, portraying EA's corporate machine as villains. Bloggers and streamers also plan to cover the event, promising to broadcast live from the protest site.

There are no final approvals for the deal from regulators yet. Opponents of the acquisition hope that public pressure will help draw even more attention to the situation before final decisions are made.
