Activists started review bombing Subnautica 2 on Steam - the EULA horrified some users
Some individuals decided to examine the EULA and were not thrilled with the restrictions.
Subnautica 2 was recently released in "early access" format. The underwater survival game received many positive reviews, but some users identified a problematic aspect.
A new "cancel campaign" has begun online. Some users examined the EULA (End User License Agreement) and were horrified.
For some gamers, it was a revelation that they were not buying a game, but a "license." This is not the only reason for dissatisfaction; discussion participants also point out the following:
- You cannot publish posts, screenshots, etc., or stream the game without a disclaimer that it is not supported by Krafton Inc. And you cannot upload such content to "paid platforms" (e.g., Patreon or a private YouTube video)
- Krafton can revoke the buyer's access to the game at any time for any reason without warning
- The terms of the agreement can change at any time and in any way — without notice
- You cannot use the game for commercial gain (e.g., streaming) without Krafton's permission
- Krafton reserves the right to "remote access to the game"
- You cannot play on more than one device without purchasing additional licenses
- You cannot illegally modify the game, and if a person does engage in modding — Krafton will have rights to that modification
- There are also clauses regulating behavior "outside the game," for example, "damaging Krafton's reputation" is prohibited
- You cannot exploit bugs
- You cannot use third-party programs like macros or Cheat Engine
- You cannot have obscene nicknames or nicks that evoke negative associations
- You cannot "spam" with content from the game
- You cannot do anything that contradicts "social norms"
- If a player violates the established rules of the EULA or TOS (Terms of Service) — they lose the right to a refund
Now some users have started leaving negative reviews for Subnautica 2 on Steam, criticizing Krafton. At the same time, sometimes the authors of such reviews specifically clarify that the game itself is good and the complaints are specifically about the EULA.
Players are calling for the EULA to be updated and for such "problematic" clauses to be removed from the agreement.
